Dear Mr Bridges,
Just to let you know what happened to all the extremely
generous items & letters that the children of The Stoke
Poges School donated & wrote.
Well, firstly there were enough items to fill 50 shoe boxes,
so 50 troops will receive the much needed items & some
lovely luxuries which I can only imagine will boost their
morale greatly.
Feedback from the troops, who are actually living on rations, is that the excitement that they feel when they receive a
box of goodies is very heart-warming & it boosts them no end
to know that strangers are out there thinking of them.
We do have troops serving in the British army that are from
commonwealth countries. Some of them either do not have any family or their families are not in a financial position to
send things to them. The experience of one troop was that on
the day that the post arrived there was great excitement
with in the camp; he says he knew that he would not be
receiving a letter as he has no family. To his surprise
there were three shoe boxes waiting for him at the end of
his bunk. He was so happy & overwhelmed that he was moved to tears.
These boxes are sent FOC via the Royal Mail to the Padre of
the battalion, he saves the boxes until he has enough to
distribute amongst all of the soldiers in the camp. Any
boxes that will not be able to reach the battalion before
Christmas are going to be held back & the collecting will
start all over in again in time for Valentines Day!!
So again thank you for your support, I think we can all
agree that it is the least we can to thank the brave that
are doing an extremely dangerous job & the children of The
Stoke Poges School have certainly made a difference!!
