Hi everyone. Welcome to our school. We hope you enjoy your visit.

The Royal Institute of Great Britain

On the 29th January 2013 some pupils from year 5 and 6 went to the Royal Institute of Great Britain to learn about science. We set off to Hillingdon Station and went on the tube to Green Park. It was a 5 minute walk from there. After that we went down to the lab to test and make our own shampoo. We got into partners and did 2 tests, one to find out how thick and one to see how foamy. Then we made a shampoo between 2. We did the same tests as before and from our results we decided to make some alterations. We made our own and did the tests on our shampoo one last time and then we took it home. We would like to thank Mr Lynn for being such a great science teacher.

Making aeroplanes fly

On Thursday 18th November 2012 Year 4 Science Club were trying to make planes fly. First we folded a piece of paper and tried to make wings or something to make the plane fly. We used card but soon figured out that it was too heavy, so we used something lighter, we tried paper and it seemed to work. At the end we got a straw and had a race, mine didn't go very far. In the end it was too tricky, so we made paper aeroplanes and flew them. Thor came first, Taran came second and I came third. It was a fun activity and I really enjoyed myself.

A  couple of weeks, on a Tuesday, I have coming home late. Why? On Tuesday I have been doing Science club. Science club teaches us fun things about science and theories. We also received a drink and nutritious piece of fruit. The past term I have learnt I lot of cool things and done many cool experiments. Some of the things we have looked at are:

·         Colours of the rainbow

·         Keeping warm

·         Using different materials

·         Shadows

·         Slippery slidey snakes (all about gravity)

Even though I like all these topics my favourite has been the rainbow colours. In the rainbow colours experiment we learnt about the primary and secondary colours. As well, as the primary and secondary colours we looked at the colour wheel. As I enjoy art and drawing this lesson was definitely my favourite. During all the weeks we had also had helpers. These helpers were the Year 6 science ambassadors. They gave us examples as well as help alongside Mrs Picot and Mrs Fetherston.

In the very first week we did the slippery slidey snakes. We used balloons and learnt about gravity.

We cut out crepe paper snakes. We tried to see weather our snakes would stand up with the aid of a ruler if we rubbed hard on our trousers. This was very interesting to find out. Unfortunately my snake did not stand up.

During the next few weeks we did colours, keeping warm, shadows and materials.

I have enjoyed going to science club every week and have learnt many great things about science. Science club has made science great for everyone, thanks to Mrs Picot and Mrs Fetherston.

I look forward to what we will learn next Tuesday.

On Tuesday the 16th of October 2012, year 2 went on a school trip to the science museum. We left school in the morning and travelled by coach. I sat with my class mate Tayyib .Everyone was excited. The journey took approximately one and a half hours and before we knew it we were outside the science museum, located in London.

At first we went to the basement of the museum. The basement was decorated as a house. We saw many everyday items like an iron, a washing machine and a very old set of stairs.

Afterwards we went into the space zone upstairs. We saw some suits and spacecrafts. The rocket which went into space caught my eye.

We then looked at a zone which displayed cars and other ways of transport. We saw many types of vehicles, and some cars hanging off the walls which I thought was funny. As well as real cars there were a collection of toy cars.

After an exciting day it was unfortunately time to leave. Our last stop, and one of my favourites, was the gift shop. I bought a rainbow slinky, blue and green bouncy ball and a double cube.

On this trip I learnt many things .Here are some of the things I learnt:

·         Bubbles will always be spherical

·         Your legs are the most important part of your body

·         If you don’t eat fruit you’ll be sick

My favourite part of the trip was when we went to the space zone and the gift shop.

On the journey back to school everyone talked about what they bought and their favourite parts.

I enjoyed this trip and would like to go again.
